The Ottawa & The Potomac
Bringing two rivers and nations together
The capital cities of Canada and the United States were founded on mighty rivers: the Ottawa, at the confluence of the Gatineau and Rideau Rivers, and the Potomac, at the confluence of the Anacostia River, in Washington D.C. Both Capital Heritage Rivers are formally recognized for outstanding natural, cultural, and economic importance. Through the Twinning of our Capital Rivers, Ottawa Riverkeeper and Potomac Riverkeeper Network honor our long-standing friendship between Canada and the United States, we celebrate our shared heritage and blessing of abundant clean freshwater, and we safeguard ongoing access to this irreplaceable resource.
